An eyelet machine (also known as a grommet machine) is a specialized device used to punch holes and securely install metal or plastic eyelets (small rings) into materials like fabric, leather, vinyl, and canvas. Unlike sewing, which uses thread, this machine reinforces holes to prevent tearing and create durable points for lacing, roping, or fastening.
How They Work
The machine operates through a simple, rapid process. The operator positions the material between a punch and a die. When activated, the machine punches a clean hole and then uses pressure to crimp the two parts of the eyelet (the barrel and the washer) together around the edge of the hole in a single, seamless motion.
The right machine depends on your production volume, material type, and power source availability.
Manual Machines: Operated by hand or foot pedal with no external power. They are inexpensive, portable, and ideal for small workshops, DIY projects, or on-site repairs with low volume.
Pneumatic Machines: Powered by compressed air, these offer fast, consistent cycles with light to medium force. They are best for high-volume manufacturing in garment factories, bag production, and shoe assembly lines.
Hydraulic Machines: Using high fluid pressure, these deliver extreme force for thick or dense materials. They are suited for heavy-duty industrial applications like automotive interiors, leather goods, and military-grade gear.
Electric/Servo Machines: Driven by an electric motor with programmable controls, they offer high precision and energy efficiency. They are commonly used in modern smart factories for high-precision work or customizable product lines.
Portable Machines: Lightweight, hand-held devices (often battery-powered) for mobility. These are used for field service, outdoor installations, and emergency repairs where stationary machines can't go.
Industrial/Integrated Machines: Fully automated, heavy-duty units often integrated into production lines. They are found in mass production facilities for items like truck tarpaulins or tents, sometimes combined with welding and cutting systems.
